I have worked in new drug development for many years and became disillusioned with the failure of many drugs to alleviate pain, depression and other symptoms affecting the central nervous system without the associated unpleasant and sometimes dangerous side effects.

When I was first asked to look at the Alpha-Stim systems I was frankly skeptical as I had evaluated many new "revolutionary" medical devices and found that they never lived up to their claims. As I had worked with patients with fibromyalgia, a condition characterised by pain, depression, anxiety, insomnia and for which there is no really effective drug treatment, it seemed an ideal condition in which to test the Alpha-Stim.

I have been surprised as to how effective it has proved to be in this condition. When used properly it has proved to be effective in lifting some of the burden of fibromyalgia by reducing the severity of many of the disabling symptoms. This has led to an improved quality of life in many of the patients using the system and without the adverse effects often encountered with drug treatments.

I have also been impressed by the mass of positive results from many high quality clinical trials demonstrating benefit in relieving pain, anxiety, stress related conditions and muscle and joint pain. This differentiates the Alpha-Stim therapy from other less well proven techniques.

As well as being the Chairman of the Institue of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition at London Metroplitan University, Dr Lister has held senior appointments in pharmaceutical and contract research companies in UK, USA and France.

He is the Chief Executive Officer of Phylax Ltd, Health Care Consultants, UK advisor to numerous pharmaceutical and nutrition companies world-wide and is also a Director of Kobic Ltd, Medical Systems,UK specialising in medical electronic devices.

Dr Lister is a Directo of Mother and Child Foundation, London and is an Author of over 50 medical and scientific publications.
