Peter Davies MSc, Grad Dip Manip Ther (Syd), HPC, MCSP, MMACP, AACP Peter has worked as a Physiotherapist throughout Australia and the UK in private practice, Universities and the NHS. Peter has taught manual therapy for several years to undergraduate Physiotherapy students at Queen Margaret University College and General Practitioners at the Lister Postgraduate Institute. For the past 15 years he has been teaching Physiotherapists on a Manual Therapy Masters Programme with the Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists for Glasgow Caledonian University. In 1995, he established Davies Physiotherapy and has been located in the West End of Edinburgh for the past 9 years. As a Physiotherapist with over 25 years of clinical experience in manual therapy, I became interested in the clinical application microcurrent treatment 3 years ago. My interest was sparked during a discussion with a Neurologist over the difficulties facing the treatment of patients with fibromyalgia. Subsequent investigation into the available research on fibromyalgia revealed several clinical studies claiming the effectiveness of cranial electrical stimulation in patients with fibromyalgia. As my interest grew, I contacted a local supplier who supplied me with a great deal of information and my first alpha-stim 100. Initially, very skeptical, I tried a session of cranial stimulation and was surprised to feel very alert and focused for the remainder of the day. Now, I regularly use the alpha-stim 100 with probe applications on a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions as an adjunct to Physiotherapy. Often there is an immediate and noticeable change with neck or back pain demonstrated by increased movement, reduced pain or increased pressure pain threshold. Several people with chronic achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, jumpers knee and tennis elbow have also appeared to respond favorably with longer duration application via self adhesive electrodes over the affected site. |
