I am writing to you to say how pleased I am to have your Alpha-Stim 100.

This product has turned my life around! This time last year, I was severely depressed to the point where I was on the maximum dose of anti-depressants and was in therapy.  My sleeping was disturbed, I had terrible mood swings...would cry almost all the time and my social life was non-existant. After using the Alpha-Stim SCS since the summer of last year, I am pleased to say that my life is back on track. Like so many young mothers Carmel Walter had never had an issue with her weight until she had her first child. At 6ft 1’ she had been a healthy size 14 with plenty of energy even after a day at work.

Emma X had been living in chronic pain for 5 years, exacerbated by developing meningitis in 2007. Despite being only in her 40s her ailments had taken away her normal life, she had been forced to give up work as a teaching assistant and in her own words she looked like a very old woman, needing the help of a frame to walk.

Based in Germany with a husband in the army she felt isolated and after an incorrect diagnosis of Multiple System Atrophy by doctors she was deeply depressed at the prospect of a reduced life expectancy of only 5 years.

In September they learned that there was a Fibromyalgia conference in Liverpool and they booked to attend. In the preceding 3 days Emma had not been able to sleep. During one of the lectures she was in so much pain that she left the hall to try and get comfortable . Once outside  she met a representative for Alpha Stim, a stress and pain management device who was offered  Emma the opportunity to try the device for 20 minutes. I have had depression and anxiety for 15 years. I've never been able to use medication as I tend to have a negative reaction. I've been using Alpha Stim for 9 weeks now. Alpha-Stim 100

At last I have discovered pain relief without side effects. I am also sleeping better, feel calmer and am more alert. The Alpha-Stim 100 consists of a small box in which probes, electrodes or ear-clips can be plugged in.

Thanks to Dr Robert Lister I had the opportunity to trial the Alpha-Stim 100 for 3 weeks. I am always sceptical when I try something new as I have been disappointed in the past. I was so pleased with the results that I have now bought my own unit.

I have had fibromyalgia (FM) for 20 years. I had a particularly rough time 3 years ago when I had to stop taking ibuprofen. I had taken them for so long they now cause severe side-effects. I am also unable to take other medication offered to FM sufferers. At this point I was housebound 4 days a week and was road-testing electric wheelchairs. I had been pushed in ordinary wheelchairs occasionally and had to walk with a stick. I was also on high level DLA benefit.

Rather than buy the electric wheelchair I decided to visit Norah Wickerson, I improved a little following her ‘Combination Approach’, the best result came from improvements in my dizziness when I followed her reactive hypoglycaemic diet. Then I improved a little more on a local pain management course where they helped me improve my relaxation techniques and taught me the difference between good and bad pain when stretching and doing exercise. I was still frustrated with the fatigue I was sufferering, particularly as it was stopping me being able to do the exercise that stopped my back pain. So I decided to follow Dr Sarah Myhill’s mitochondrial support to improve energy levels. This mainly included taking D-Ribose, Acetyl-L-carnitine, Omega 3 and co-enzyme Q10. This again has helped a little and I am now no-longer claiming DLA as I can now walk futher than the benefit allows, but I’m not yet able to work.

My headaches which had improved with steroid injections were getting bad again when Dr Lister asked if I’d like to try the Alpha-Stim 100.

I decided to keep a daily record of any changes to my symptoms so that I could workout whether it was worth me buying my own unit. Using a 0-10 score, I measured things like the pain in trigger points in my shoulders, jaw and back, headaches, how long I slept and if I felt refreshed in the morning and how stressed I felt during the day.

I have used both the probes and electrodes successfully for pain relief.

The probes work very quickly; with two of my group members I found they had pain relief within 10 mins. The disadvantages are that the probes need to be done by someone else to you, as you need to be relaxed whilst it is working. The electrodes are similar to the TENs machines (which I did not find helpful) but the Alpha-Stim works in a very different way, the electrodes are placed in a different pattern and the current is much smaller.

After a few days of working out the best position to place the electrodes and working out the best current (which for me is 0.5Hz and level 5-6 on the frequency dial) I now use the electrodes daily. The disadvantage is that they take 10 minutes to do the same as 10 seconds with the probes. A few weeks ago I was in charge of the audio system at church, controlling all the microphones. This was only the 2nd time I have done this so I was nervous and had a level 5 headache. In desperation I took the Alpha-Stim with me, I stuck the electrodes to the back of my neck and had it on nearly continuously, it worked! My headache reduced significantly and I felt calm.

The ear-clips are designed to help with insomnia, stress, fatigue and depression. They are very easy to use, the only disadvantage is they should be used when you are resting, for an hour, and if you have problems getting to sleep they should not be used 3 hour before bedtime. I don't find this a problem as I usually rest in the afternoon as part of my pacing.  I used the unit on 0.5Hz and between levels 2-3 on the frequency dial. Initially I feel lightheaded when I switch on the unit but that soon passes. Another member of my group found she felt heavy and dizzy but this was soon solved by her using the ear-clips longer until the heaviness passed and by turning down the frequency level.

I had to use the ear-clips for 1 hour everyday for a fortnight, before I saw an improvement. I noticed the difference when I came back from a stressful trip to London. I am hypersensitive to light and sound and travelling on the underground always exacerbates my FM symptoms. This time I was in less pain and felt calm. I had not had to use my usual relaxation techniques to help, and surprisingly after such a stressful day I had no problem falling asleep.

I have also noticed a difference in my sleep pattern. I have had 8 nights in the last 6 weeks when I have slept a solid 7 hours; I haven't done that for years. My sleep pattern seems more normal. If I take sleeping tablet regularly I get nightmares and wake-up feeling tenser, or if I take antidepressants or muscle relaxants I wake-up in a zombie state that usually lasts all day. My dreams are now calmer and even with such a long sleep, I am surprised, that I am not as stiff in the morning as usual. 

An added bonus is that my jaw pain has also reduced and I’ve been able to reduce my husband’s back pain with the Alpha-Stim probes.

There is a rent to own scheme for those who want to spread out the payments if you are unable to afford the full amount of £320 excluding VAT in one payment. (Don’t forget to ask for a VAT exemption form). If Support Groups have enough funds a possibility is to buy an Alpha-Stim 100 for the group and loan it out for a minimum of 3 weeks periods to group members to try. If Group leaders would like a copy of the assessment sheets I used to work out if the Alpha-Stim was working please contact me.

I know from my own experience not everything aimed at treating FM will work for all of us, but the research from America where this type of unit has been available for 20 years is good for FM sufferers, which can be seen on www.themicrocurrentsite.co.uk

Two points from this research shows that Alpha-Stim is more effective than conventional antidepressant drugs but without the adverse side effects and there is evidence that it can help the brain reach a balance state and this may be the major effect in insomnia, depression etc.

I have tried many different treatments for FM, some have made a difference others not. I am so pleased at last that I have found something that is very easy to use (especially compared to some treatments) and in 6 weeks it has made such a difference to me. I know that I will probably need to use the Alpha-Stim 100 daily for sometime yet but as the effects are cumulative I hope that I will soon be able to reduce the time I use it. I now have new hope for the future and dreams that I thought were impossible, like visiting my old school friends in America and New Zealand, may now be a realistic possibility.

I have recently been suffering from extremely bad Sciatica.  I have had Sciatica in the past, about a year ago, but this time the pain was a lot more severe.

A friend of mine suggested that I try Microcurrent therapy and having looked into the subject further I decided to try the Alpha-Stim 100.  The results were nothing short of amazing.

The first day I used the probes on my leg and ran through the procedure for no more than 10 minutes.  I was immediately able to get out of bed and get to the bathroom on my own.  Something I had been unable to do for a week as I was unable to put any weight onto my foot due to the tremendous pain it caused.

After several days of using the probes my leg just got better and better.  I am now able to get up and down the stairs by myself and can walk with the aid of a stick.  The last time I had Sciatica I was unable to get about for over a month and that time the pain was nowhere near as bad as this time around.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the Alpha-Stim to anyone - it really is money well spent!

For years I suffered from insomnia and anxiety; I was put on Paxil & Trazadone to treat it but hated the constant side effects. For many years I have wanted to send a letter thanking you for selling me the Alpha Stim 100. It has been an integal part of my life, especially since I have severe lower back problems. I have been using it since 1993 and it still works perfectly. Since then, I have never needed any type of pain pills for my back or any muscular disorder.

I also clip  it on my ears every morning to start my day as it seems to get me focused and result in greater effeciency in my business affairs. I have never before sent a letter praising the attributes of any product, but unless anyone has experienced chronic pain, they couldn't begin to understand the true meaning of pain relief. 

When I was in my mid thirties and going through a divorce, I was told that I had dysthymia, or chronic low-grade depression. I went to counseling and started taking Paxil. Next I sought out complementary medicine and began Reiki, aromatherapy, Bach Flower remedies in conjunction with medication. Over the course of the next ten years, I switched medications and doses, tried acupuncture and reflexology, and told I was bipolar 3.

All of the medications I tried were somewhat effective, but not completely. I still never felt quite "normal". About five years ago, I was at an alternative medicine show in Canada and tried the Alpha-Stim SCS. I immediately felt the effects and it was wonderful. I looked into buying the device, but at that time it was not really in my budget, although when I look back and calculate how much I was spending on medication and other therapies, it really was.

Finally, at the age of 45, I purchased the Alpha-Stim and I am finally, for the first time in my life, feeling consistently normal. I am sleeping better, thinking more clearly, and making better decisions. Ironically, despite having depression (or whatever) all of my life, I have always been a basically optimistic person and have been a "high functioning" depressive. I've suffered from clinical depression since I was in my early teens (enough to be hospitalized) and I've tried nearly everything; Paxil, Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Sam-e, St. John's Wort, dietary changes, exercise, etc. etc. Out of desperation, I went for a free trial of a device called "the Alpha-stim SCS" after reading an article about it in a local health journal.It's been two weeks now (real relief of depression isn't anticipated for three weeks)and I haven't had a suicidal thought for ten days! Regarding the technology and science you asked me about: I spent several hours researching both tonight. Here's what I think from the information available and what I already know:

The existence of the human (and all other) bioelectromagnetc fields is incontrovertible. Their ability to be modified by electromagnetic fields and electric currents is likewise incontrovertible. Well known, all proven. It's also why meditative techniques, martial arts "katas", and similar have such profound effects on well-being. It's very sound science that finding the right signal can stimulate or alleviate so many different things.

I have looked at the electrophysics described in various reports and find that the causal introduction of periodic micro-currents work the same way as what is known from the sensing mechanisms of EEG and other measurement protocols. In other words -- the physics makes sense too.

Electrical stimulation of endorphin production and modification of neural mechanisms relate directly to similarly known effects of deep meditation, acupuncture, acupressure, and myofascial balancing.

I also looked at the reports from the FDA, American Journal of Pain Management, Peer-Reviewed studies cited in both, and clinical endorsements of the actual technology and commercially available devices. These are very significant and I think scientifically sound reports and the technology employed in the product (Alpha-stim SCS) is specified in use. I also looked at the math cited in the clinical studies supporting the technology and reported results (generally very significantly good). I won't bore you with the math but the documented statistical trend toward clinically proven relief of various conditions seems quite impressive, especially in blind-blind studies over the last 10 years or so.

It is interesting to note that (from several reports):

Fibromyalgia patients showed 36-52% moderate to marked improvement
Myofascial showed 29-61%
Anxiety and depression showed 32-65%
CFS patients showed 60-80% fair to moderate improvement. Also the double-blind reports on significantly improved sleep cycles and reduced pain as well as re-established cognitive advantages (sharper, clearer).

What do I think -- I wouldn't hesitate to believe that the technology has the effects and uses as advertised, it's just like many "alternative-medicine" treatments except that this DOES have major well known medical organizations using and reporting it works (like the Cleveland Clinic, other hospitals, and many Pro sports teams, etc). Remember what Dave says: If it works, it's NOT "alternative medicine"

Anyway-that's a professionals take on it. But Google it for yourselves and do some research of your own....some of the best money I've spent, IMO. It's also very effective for those suffering from bi-polar disorder and panic attacks.

Today is my 18th day using my Alpha-Stim. After two long years of panic attacks, anxiety and depression I can honestly say I am 100% BETTER!!!!!!!!! I was having at least two panic attacks daily.....NO MORE......The Alpha-Stim totally relaxes me and doesn't let the panic attack take hold.

My depression is improving daily...I find my interest  I had lost in so many things is returning and I am looking forward to things and enjoying life.  THANK YOU....ALPHA-STIM for making all of this possible.

I have had a severe sleeping disorder ever since serving as a Marine in Viet Nam. Additionally, as a result of my "experiences" there, I also suffer from anxiety attacks and other "conditions."

I have been dealing/coping/enduring these and other issues for over 38 plus years.I would experience severe sleeping disorder bouts at least 2-3 times a year. I finally sought help and have been on many different medications for the past 14 years.

However,in the past, when I could not fall asleep at night I almost always fell asleep out of sheer exhaustion about the time I was supposed to get up and go to work.

This past May (2006), I began what would eventually be a 6 week bout without being able to fall asleep at night. However, for the first time, I did not/could not fall asleep as I had been able to do in the past. I gave up and tried to take a nap later in the day and still could not fall asleep. That night, and for what would go on for the next 6 weeks, I could not sleep at all!

After the better part of a week, I finally called my Psychiatrist and he "upped" the dosages on my medication. When that didn't work we changed medications.This went on for weeks and nothing was working! I flat out could not sleep!

Days had now turned into weeks. I was now psyched out, I could not think straight, and I had become desperate. Every day and every night was an eternity. I was exhausted, suffering, my mind was not thinking rationally, and I started feeling hopeless and was now feeling depressed. I did not know what was happening to me. I had never felt this "bad" or this "way" before. I was in such bad shape mentally that I actually started thinking of taking my own life, anything but this pain and mental anguish I was experiencing.

My Psychiatrist finally put me on 30 milligrams of Valium, 100 milligrams of Seroquel, 600 milligrams of Lithium, and a "new" Patch for Depression (Selegiline transdermal System). He also told me that I had slipped into "deep clinical melancholy Depression." There was nothing more he could do for me medicinally and based on my "condition," he recommended Electro Convulsion Therapy. These new medications "knocked me out," and I started getting sleep, but I was in the throes of deep depression. Although desperate, ECT still sounded very radical.

My Sister had been scouring the internet for anything related to Depression and came upon your site. I called "Karl," got my Psychiatrist to prescribe Alpha Stim and ordered it. It didn't happen overnight, but after about 3 weeks I started making "baby steps" out of my depression. I have used it every other day since then, and came out of depression in late August. As a precautionary measure, even though I thought I was almost back to "normal," my Psychiatrist still has me on the same medication.

I believe Alpha Stim made a significant difference in my recovery and highly recommend it to anyone with sleeping problems, anxiety attacks, and depression.

The very next morning after January 1st, when I'd spent time with a friend talking about her horrible Migraine headache, the fickle finger of fate had me experience my first Migraine headache in 3 years. I was brushing my teeth and it began. To explain the severity and panic that was setting in is impossible. Yet somewhere inside of me was a mature resignation that perhaps comes from being 51 years old. The vision loss was about the worst severity I can remember, and I couldn’t comfortably walk. I was trying to gear up for a lulu of a Migraine.

In most areas of life when it comes to any type of healing modality, I always feel like the bridesmaid and never the bride. Nothing works for me.

This letter is being written to tell you that this morning I have experienced a true miracle. I decided to see if the Alpha Stim 100 could treat Migraine. I couldn’t even see the ear clips, and regarding putting drops of water onto the felt pads for electricity conduction---forget about it. I stumbled into the kitchen, and dipped the ear clips into some water and put them on. The intensity level of Alpha Stim 100 goes from 0 to 6. Normally for my relaxation sessions, I have found 3 ½ to be my comfortable level. This morning I couldn’t even see the numbers on the dial, and I just dialed up until I could feel pulsating on my ear lobes. Eventually when my vision returned I found out that this turned out to be level 6.

Next I lay down on my couch and spent the next 20 minutes with my eyes shut. I found it interesting that nausea was not beginning to occur, and any headache pain was almost imperceptible. At the end of the 20 minutes the machine shut itself off. I opened my eyes and still experienced some vision loss. After a second 20 minute session, I opened my eyes and was able to see perfectly. I used the Alpha Stim 100 for a 3rd session, for a total of 60 minutes. Then I decided to get up to see the results. Once again, I am in the happy throes of a true miracle. I am writing this letter feeling a little bit of hunger in my belly which tells you that nausea isn’t present. Other than a very, very slight headache on my right side, I am utterly fine. I’m just about to head out for errands, and if that isn’t a miracle, I don’t know what is.

I have been suffering with anxiety and depression intermittently for a very long time and have been prescribed medications to combat its adverse symptoms. However after some stressful events I seemed to be relapsing into a debilitating depressive episode with frequent panic attacks.
